What is this?
The purpose of this SIMPLEX Net test is to prepare users to be ready and able to work a NET or other Emergency communications needs in Simplex mode. This would most likely be due to a repeater failure that could be due to a power failure at the repeater site or other related issues that knocks the repeater offline.
We encourage you to be able to switch your radio(s) to simplex mode either by reprogramming your radio and your current CARP repeater settings or to add a secondary CARP frequency setup (146.865) in Simplex mode with no repeater access tone (141.3 MHz). I prefer the secondary channel setup as it is easier and faster to just change channels.
While working a net in Simplex mode, it is likely that outlying stations may not have sufficient range or power to reach the net control station. In those cases, we would want stations to listen for these stations and possibly to relay check-ins to net control. This could be of particular importance in an emergency scenario where we need to pull together as a team so that any calls for help or information can be passed along appropriately.
