August brought about a lull in activities for the Clovis Amateur Radio Pioneers (CARP). A few members took the opportunity to escape the heat and relax for a few days.
The group’s regular campground, Granite Creek, was closed this year due to dead trees. So we went the old razed Camp Mar-Y-Mac location at Dinkey Creek.
Glen-Bob KG6MTR arrived early Thursday and secured the campsites. Rob AE6GE arrived early Thursday Afternoon and setup an HF station with a dipole about 75 foot in the trees.
Friday morning Glen N6HEW showed up and his campsite included a G5RV high in the trees. In the afternoon Rick W6KKO came up after work. Then later Tom N6MQG and wife Tammi and Mark K6ORJ arrived with girlfriend Gladys.
Saturday some the group split of and did their own thing. Tom N6MQG drove up to Wishon/Courtright and took his pick a ways down the Dusy/Ershim Trail. Rick and Rob drove around and scouted for a VHF contest site around Patterson Mountain. We also took a hike to see the sights of Dinkey Creek, Glenn Meadow Creek and the Dinkey Mill.
Saturday evening was filled with fun and fellowship around the campfire.
