CARP Elections 2013

There are five (5) nominees for the 2013-2014 CARP Board of Directors seats. Rob Mavis AE6GE, Steve Stoehr N6JXL and David Dansby NI6M are seeking re-election. Steve Bassett NA6G and Steve Orman N6PLE are also running.

As per CARP By-Laws, the vote for election of members of the Board of Directors will take place at the Annual Business Meeting. The Annual Business Meeting will be held Friday, January 4th, 2013 at the Clovis Senior Center at 7:00pm. The election will be by ballot of the members present at the meeting.

CARP Christmas Party – Friday December 7th, 2012

CARP Christmas Party

Come join us for the annual CARP Christmas Party on Friday December 7 at 7:00pm at the Clovis Senior Center classroom.

The dinner is pot-luck style with the club providing turkey, ham and tri-tip for the main dish along with rolls, coffee, tea and punch and cake for dessert. Please bring a side-dish, salad or dessert and a 2-liter bottle of your favorite soft drink.

We will also have:

  • Awards – There will be participation awards and the prestigious CARP Bonehead and Overload award.
  • Drawing – We will have lots of great prizes from flashlights to gift cards to a HT for the grand prize. Drawing tickets cost only $1.00.
  • Membership Renewal Drawing – For any member who joins or renews their membership, between now and the night of the Christmas Party, will receive a ticket to a drawing for a Baofeng UV-5R dual-band handheld transceiver.

The dinner is open to all. Hope to see you there, we always have a good time, great food and a lot of fun.

Transmitter Hunting from the Fox’s Perspective.

Come out and see what transmitter hunting is like from the hider’s perspective. Why do they choose the locations they do? What makes this a good hiding spot? What tricks do they use to throw the hunter off the scent?

Off The Front –Forward Advantage Charity Bicycle Ride Event Recap

Saturday October 13, 2012 the Clovis Amateur Radio Pioneers with the assistance of the Fresno ARES group provided radio communications support for the 2012 Off the Front Charity Bicycle ride. Due to road construction the event was modified and shortened for this year. The routes consisted of a 45 Mile, 25 mile and a 11 mile ride.

Amateur personnel provided radio communications for three rest-stops, 3 SAG (supply & gear) vehicles and the command post. Thank you to the volunteers who helped out:

Valley EMCOMM Provides Communications Support for the 2012 Tour de Fresno

 The Clovis Amateur Radio Pioneers provide radio communications support for the 4ht annual Tour de Fresno Charity Bike Ride on Saturday September 22nd, 2012.and requested communications support for the areas of the course where there was limited or no cell phone coverage.

Rob Mavis AE6GE coordinated communications for the designated portion of the event. Volunteers were enlisted from the various amateur radio groups from around the Fresno/Clovis area. Five rest stops, in areas of the course where there was limited or no cell phone coverage, were provided communication support by the group with Rob manning the command post and acting as net control.

Participating in events like this not only allow us to provide a public service, but also provides training and prepares us for emergency service communications for if and when the time comes.

August 4, 2012 CARP Transmitter Hunt Recap

On Saturday August 4, 2012, Rob AE6GE was the fox for the CARP Transmitter Hunt at the CARP Summer Sizzler Party. The hunt began at Steve N6JXL’s Ranch in Sanger. Two teams participated in the Hunt that started shortly after2pm.

The transmitter was hidden offCentral Avenue southofCampbellMountain.

While the hunt was measured by time, mileage was recorded at the start and end of the hunt for further scoring. Here are the results from the hunt:
