At the June 3rd, 2011 CARP Membership Meeting we will have a presentation on VHF contesting. We will cover the equipment, how its done and show some photos of various VHF contest excursions. If you have any photos you would like to show, let me know and I can add them to the presentation if you like.
We will also use the meeting for last minute planning for the June Contest. If you would like to attend, let us know!
Come on out and enjoy an informative presentation as well as a chance to meet and chat with other local amateur radio enthusiasts. The meeting will be held at the Clovis Senior Center at 850 Fourth Street in Clovis. Please see the CARP website for more details and directions.
ARRL June VHF QSO Party at the Big Landing
This year CARP will be operating the ARRL June VHF QSO Party from the Big Landing [click for map], located approximately 10 miles up Beasore Road above Bass Lake, California. The site gives a commanding view of the valley and to the north and south. The site is right off the main road and accessible to all types of vehicles. We will have multiple operating stations for 6 meters through 1296 MHz.
Club members are welcome to come up and join the fun for the entire weekend, for a day or even just a few hours. Saturday night we will have a BBQ. If you plan on making it for the BBQ, please let us know so we can have enough food for everyone. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP or for more details.

No CARP Meeting in July
The first Friday of the month falls during the CARP Fireworks Stand fundraiser sales period so there will be no meeting in July. Most of the club members are at the stand that Friday night, so if you are available come on out and keep us company and maybe help sell some fireworks or purchase some!
CARP Fireworks Stand Fundraiser June 28 thru July 4, 2011
For the past few years CARP has operated a Fireworks Stand during the week leading up to the Fourth of July. While some years proceeds from the operation have been better than others, the effort produces a large portion of the clubs revenue that is uses to operate and provide activities.
Money from dues, donations and fundraising efforts pay for the club’s liability insurance, meeting room rent, repeater maintenance and site rental, food, supplies and prizes for parties and events.
Running a fireworks stand is a huge undertaking. We are thankful to all those who have volunteered their time for the cause. We can always use more help, it does not matter if you can only offer a couple of hours one day out of the week, it all helps! Below is a tentative schedule of when the stand will be open, if you can help out any of those times, please contact Rob AE6GE at email@example.com.
Tentative Fireworks Stand Schedule 2011:
- Tuesday, June 28 -noon to 9pm
- Wednesday, June 29 -noon to 9pm
- Thursday, June 30 – noon to 9pm
- Friday, July 1 – noon to 10pm
- Saturday, July 2 – 8am to 10pm
- Sunday, July 3 – 8am to 10pm
- Monday, July 4 – 8am-midnight
CARP Award Nominees Sought
At the CARP annual Christmas Party two prestigious awards are given. The CARP Overload Award goes to the person who times out the Repeater the most and the CARP Bonehead Award, which is given to the person who does the most “bone-headed” thing that year.
We are always looking for you to nominate other members for these awards. If you witness an act that is deserving of one of these awards, please email the details to firstname.lastname@example.org for consideration!
Repeater Site Looking for Tenants
The communications site that the CARP repeater is located is looking for additional tenants. If you know of a company looking for tower space that has as great view of the central valley, please let us know so we can get them in contact with the site owner. Email to email@example.com.
The CARP website can be viewed at www.k6arp.org. The CARP website has some great amateur radio related articles and an event calendar outlining CARP and other amateur radio events. If you have any articles or events you would like to see on the site, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As a paid member of CARP you will receive a CARP Member Badge that is designed to attach to a lanyard. The badge not only shows that you are a member of CARP, but also has the repeater access commands printed on the reverse. If you have any questions about your badge, please email email@example.com.
