Sunnyvale Ham Radio Outlet closes after 26 years

The Sunnyvale Ham Radio Outlet signed off for the final time Wednesday after 26 years as a hub for Silicon Valley’s amateur radio community.

Due in part to rising rent in the city, the outlet at 510 Lawrence Expressway chose to close its doors and merge operations with its Oakland location, according to shop employees.

Two-Way Radio Users Worried California’s Cellphone Ban Is Too Broad

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Back in January, it became illegal to hold your cell phone while driving. But now some drivers say the law unfairly targets radio users as well and they want that to change.

“I’m driving down the road and talking on this radio,” said Norm Lucas, holding his high frequency radio microphone. “Doing that simple act while driving is a $20 ticket.”

Publicly funded art installation makes dialing around planet a visceral experience

Glen Blomgren (AF6CY) became a silent key on Feb. 23, 2017. Glen was a great asset to the local ARES/RACES group and was also a mentor to the new hams as well as an ARRL Volunteer Examiner. You could find him and wife Gwen at most of the public service events in the area. He was very active in the Fresno CERT organization teaching classes as well as working in the field. He was a great supporter of the 2nd Amendment working with the NRA. Glen gave most of his life educating and helping his community however he could

Glen Henry Blomgren, 86, of Fresno died Feb. 23. He was a professor at California State University, Fresno. Memorial: 11 a.m. March 17 at Peoples Church, GL Johnson Chapel. Arrangements: Neptune Society of Central California.
