March of Dimes Fresno March for Babies 2011

Mark your calendars for Saturday April 16, 2011 – CARP will be coordinating radio communications for the March of Dimes March for Babies Fresno 2011 event at Woodward Park.

Please arrive by 7:30. The event will last until around 12 to 1 pm. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Ventura County Amateur Radio Society Honors Ronald Regan’s 100th Birthday with Special Event Station

Local amateur radio operators, “hams,” belonging to the Ventura County Amateur Radio Society and Simi Settlers Amateur Radio Club recently participated in the celebration of President Ronald Reagan’s 100th Birthday by conducting two-way special amateur radio communications from Feb. 5-7.

Mixed Decision in Appeals Case in Palmdale

Mixed Decision from the California Court of Appeals in Palmdale, California Antenna Case

On January 27, 2011, the California Court of Appeals, Second Appellate District, issued its Opinion in the antenna case of Alec Zubarau, WB6X. In several respects, it is a win for Amateur Radio in California. Working with his ARRL Volunteer Counsel, Len Shaffer, WA6QHD, Mr Zubarau is now considering their next course of action.

The Court found that the Palmdale antenna ordinance, as it pertained to the height limit for vertical antennas, was “unenforceable” because it allowed a radio amateur to have a vertical antenna up to 75 feet high when measured from the ground but limited the “active element of the antenna array” to 30 feet. February 5th Transmitter-Hunt Recap

CARP T-Hunt Recap – February 5th, 2011

Saturday morning, four teams met at Letterman Park in Clovis for CARP’s first transmitter hunt of 2011. The teams consisted of:

  • Mike KG6MSV
  • Dave NI6M & Patrick KI6QOH
  • Ron N6MTS & Ron
  • Duane KI6QEL &  XYL

Rob  AE6GE, was the designated hider, placing the transmitter in a backpack and sending itoff with Robert  KG6QHL on a bike. At approximately 10:10 that morning, the hunt began.

T-Hunt: Saturday March 19th, 2011 at 2:00 pm

…another CARP Transmitter Hunt on Saturday March 19th, 2011

If you didn’t get enough Ham Radio in on Saturday March 19th with the 7:30 am Transmitter Hunt and all the fun at the M2 Open House, wait there’s more…ANOTHER Transmitter Hunt after lunch!

At 2:00 pm the second Hunt of the day will begin. The hunt will start at the M2 front gate.  Hunt frequency will be 146.565 Mhz. This will be a standard radius hunt. The transmitter will be located somewhere within a radius of 15 miles from the start point at M2.

CARP Transmitter Hunt on Saturday March 19th, 2011

To kick off the festivities at the 13th Annual M2 Open House, CARP will be sponsoring a Transmitter hunt at 7:30am just before the gates open!

The hunt will start at the M2 front gate.  Hunt frequency will be 146.565 Mhz. This will be a low-power transmitter, bring your hand held direction finding equipment.

Icom proudly announces the debut of the new HF/50MHz transceiver IC-7410. The IC-7410 has been designed as an HF/50MHz specialized rig with excellent performance and features in this category. The IC-7410 employs high grade DSP unit and double conversion super-heterodyne system developed from the latest technology used in our higher grade rigs such as the IC-7800/7700/7600 series. In addition, the IC-7410 comes with a built-in 15kHz 1st IF filter and can accept up to two optional filters (3kHz/6kHz). When used with these 1st IF filters, narrow mode signals such as the CW and SSB modes are protected from adjacent strong signals.
