Protesting country remains unplugged.

Egyptian activists have relied on landlines and amateur radios to communicate since the country’s internet connections were severed on Friday.

Despite network shutdowns and nationwide curfews, demonstrators continued to rally against President Hosni Mubarak’s 30-year rule.

NANOSAIL-D EJECTS: NASA SEEKS AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS’ AID TO LISTEN FOR BEACON SIGNAL

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 11:30 a.m. EST, engineers at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., confirmed that the NanoSail-D nanosatellite ejected from Fast Affordable Scientific and Technology Satellite, FASTSAT. The ejection event occurred spontaneously and was identified this morning when engineers at the center analyzed onboard FASTSAT telemetry. The ejection of NanoSail-D also has been confirmed by ground-based satellite tracking assets.

FCC Urged to Approve Body Area Network Plan

Healthcare, aeronautics industries come to meeting of minds over spectrum proposed for FCC’s wireless MBAN plan

Healthcare providers and aeronautics industry association members this month urged the Federal Communications Commission to quickly approve their plan for setting aside bandwidth for a so-called mobile body area network technology, or MBAN.

The FCC proposed an MBAN network as part of its first national broad plan that was unveiled last year.

The frequencies sought for the MBAN network are currently used by several private and public sector organizations for aeronautical mobile telemetry and federal radiolocation tasks, and by amateur radio users.

Now that the holidays have settled and we are all back in the swing of things, lets talk T-Hunting.  Our last hunt was back in early December.  It was an over cast day but not enough to scare away the dedicated T-Hunters.  The hide location was a sump on the NE corner of Indianola and Jensen Ave on the edge of Sanger.  Click here to see the hunt sight. ‘Hams’ play big part in tracking storms

GAINESVILLE – Ham radio operaors play a key role in many places in Georgia when events such as the snowstorm occur.

Hall County relies on a network of more than 30 amateur radio operators in times like these, according to fire chief David Kimbrell, who also serves as the county’s Emergency Management Agency director.

Amateur Radio Bill Reintroduced as HR81

New Amateur Radio Bill Introduced in Congress

The Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Enhancement Act, which died at the end of the 111th Congress, has been reintroduced in the 112th Congress as HR 81. The sponsor is Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX-18). The new bill — which was introduced on January 5 — has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
