May 26, 2010- May was quite busy with EmCommWest in Reno, a Search and Rescue exercise in Hanford (a major media event) that is to be continued in Fresno.  All this and the regular training made for an exhausting month.  ARRL Website brings new training opportunity with the addition of the ADVANCED AREC course.  Now June is here and that means Field Day!

Redefining Electrical Current Law With the Transistor Laser

While the laws of physics weren’t made to be broken, sometimes they need revision. A major current law has been rewritten thanks to the three-port transistor laser, developed by Milton Feng and Nick Holonyak Jr. at the University of Illinois.

With the transistor laser, researchers can explore the behavior of photons, electrons and semiconductors. The device could shape the future of high-speed signal processing, integrated circuits, optical communications, supercomputing and other applications. However, harnessing these capabilities hinges on a clear understanding of the physics of the device, and data the transistor laser generated did not fit neatly within established circuit laws governing electrical currents.

ARRL June VHF QSO Party

ARRL June VHF QSO Party

CARP will be participating in the 2010 ARRL June VHF QSO Party from Black Mountain.

Black Mountain is located in the Los Padres National Forest as the GPS coordinates: 35°23’33.29″N 120°21’6.52″W. We will be operating from maidenhead grid location CM95 in the Santa Barbara Section.

The site is remotely located and takes a long 3-1/2 hour drive to get there. Use the links below to see the recommended route to take so you have paved road all the way to the top.

CARP T-Hunt – June 3rd, 2010 @ 7:45 PM

OK, you night owls you asked for it, here it is.  Night time T-Hunt on June 3rd, starting at 7:45 pm after the CARP net. Mike KG6MSV will be the fox. The hunt will start at Letterman Park in Clovis with a 15 mile radius from that point.  Hunt frequency will be 146.565. There will be two foxes. The first will get you to the general location and a second low power sniffer Transmitter.

Since the beginning of the year the FCC’s enforcement effort in the private radio area seems concentrated in two areas.  These are violations of the Part 95 rules governing the 11 meter Citizens Radio Service and ridding repeaters of unwanted users in the Amateur Service.
