Google Remembers Samuel Morse’s Birthday

If you browsed to the popular search engine’s website today you might have noticed the Google logo was replaced by an image of a series of colorful dots and dashes.

The symbols were morse code spelling the word G-O-O-G-L-E. The doodle, or the name Google calls the images, was to honor the birthday of Samuel Morse. The inventer of morse code was born on April 27, 1791.

SAN FRANCISCO –World Moon Bounce Day is June 27, Saturday, Sydney Time (Friday, June 26, San Francisco Time), Echoes of Apollo (EOA, echoesofapollo.com), an international space education organization, in cooperation with the National Space Society (nss.org), announced today. All over the world, participants will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing by bouncing radio voice transmissions off the moon, known as “moon bounce.”

March of Dimes – March for Babies 2009 Recap

Saturday April 18th the Clovis Amateur Radio Pioneers with the assistance of of other amateur radio groups around the valley provided communications support for the Fresno March of Dimes – March for Babies 2009.

Mod2009-CrowdThis year the event was moved to the North-East most corner of Woodward Park. The move was motivated for safety so that the route the walkers took would not cross any roads, thus limiting need for expanded traffic control. From the start point the route went out the Eaton trail and was to turn around at Rice Road.

CARP will be sponsoring a T-Hunt on Saturday June 6th starting at the Clovis Senior Center parking lot. The hunt will begin promptly at 10:00 am so be sure to arrive early.

At the conclusion of the hunt, we will all converge on a local eating establishment to swap stories of the day.

Police, firefighters rely on radios during cell phone-less day,
no major incidents reported

SANTA CRUZ — For police and firefighters, Thursday’s massive communication outage was a throwback to the days of radio cars and face-to-face interactions with those who need help.

Most fire departments and police agencies in the county had extra staff working Thursday. The Sheriff’s Office stationed deputies at all of its community service centers in the county and Santa Cruz police put every available officer on the street.

The morning of Saturday April 4, 2009 the Clovis Amateur Radio Pioneers sponsored a Transmitter Hunt. The start point of the hunt was the Clovis Senior Center. Being it was a beginner hunt the hunt area was limited to a radius of five miles from the start point. Rob Mavis AE6GE was the fox for the day’s hunt.
